What HS Code 76 aluminium and articles thereof covers
Chapter 76 holds aluminium in nearly every form you will meet in trade. It starts with raw metal and ends with finished goods such as pots, screws and fencing. Some people search for it as the aluminium HS code. Others search for HSN code 76. They are looking for the same chapter.
The easiest way to read the chapter is in four groups. Each group follows the path of the metal from furnace to finished product.
Every code in this chapter is a six-digit subheading set by the World Customs Organization. It is the base for aluminium tariff classification in most countries. Each heading has its own page with its own codes, so open the heading you need from the list above.
- Raw forms, 7601 to 7603: unwrought aluminium, aluminium waste and scrap, and powders and flakes.
- Semi-finished shapes, 7604 to 7609: bars, rods and profiles, wire, plates, sheets and strip, foil, tubes and pipes, and pipe fittings.
- Structures and containers, 7610 to 7613: structures and parts such as doors and windows, large tanks, casks, drums and cans, and gas containers.
- Cables and articles, 7614 to 7616: stranded wire and cables, household and sanitary ware, and other aluminium articles such as screws, bolts and netting.
How to choose the right aluminium HS code
Start with the shape of the product. Then check the points below. Customs reads the description word by word, so small details decide the code.
A wrong code can slow a shipment or lead to questions from customs. If you are unsure, check the heading page and compare the full descriptions side by side.
- Alloyed or not alloyed. Unwrought aluminium splits into not alloyed (760110) and alloys (760120). Several other headings use the same split.
- Sheet or foil. Any paper or plastic backing is not counted in the thickness.
- Wire or cable. Plain wire sits in 7605 and is split by alloy and by size, with 7mm as the dividing line.
- Tank, can or gas container. A container over 300l goes in 7611. A container of 300l or less goes in 7612. Containers for compressed or liquefied gas have their own heading, 7613.
- Structures. Heading 7610 covers aluminium structures and their parts. Prefabricated buildings are left out and have a heading in another chapter.
- Everything else. Heading 7616 is for aluminium articles not named anywhere else in the chapter. Check the other headings first.
