What HS code 7607 covers

Aluminium foil, also spelled aluminum foil, is metal rolled into a very thin layer. Heading 7607 is where customs places it. The foil may be bare. It may carry printing. It may also be glued to paper, paperboard, plastics or a similar backing.

One rule matters a lot here. The thickness test looks at the metal only. The backing is left out of the measurement. So a foil with a heavy paper layer can still belong in this heading if the metal layer stays within the limit.

The path runs from Chapter 76 down to heading 7607, and then to a six-digit subheading. That last step gives the exact customs description. In some countries people call the same number the HSN code 7607.

How to choose between 760711, 760719 and 760720

Ask these questions in order. The answers lead you to one subheading.

  • If yes, use 760720.
  • If it is bare, was it rolled and left at that, with no further work? If yes, use 760711. This is rolled aluminium foil.
  • If it is bare and was not rolled, use 760719.

Difference between HS 7606 and 7607

Both headings cover flat aluminium. The split is thickness. Foil goes to 7607. Plates, sheets and strip above the foil limit go to 7606. Measure the metal alone, because backing does not count.

Some nearby headings cover finished goods. Household and kitchen articles sit in 7615. Articles not named anywhere else in the chapter fall in 7616. If foil has been made into one of these items, the item may belong there and not in 7607.

If you are still unsure, run your product description through the HS code classifier. Duty can differ from one country to the next, so check the national tariff before you ship.
