Chapter 60 Fabrics; knitted or crocheted

6 headings · 44 six-digit codes · World Customs Organization Harmonized System

HS code 60 fabrics are cloth made by knitting or crocheting, not by weaving. The chapter splits them by pile, width, stretch yarn, knit method and fibre.

Chapter 60 is one of the more finely subdivided chapters: 6 headings carry 44 six-digit codes between them, an average of 7.3 per heading. The deepest is 6005 (Fabrics; warp knit (including those made on galloon knitting machines), other than those…) with 14. The chapter sits in Section XI, Textiles and Textile Articles, alongside 13 other chapters.

What HS code 60 fabrics cover

Chapter 60 of the Harmonized System covers cloth that is made by knitting or crocheting. Knitted cloth is built from loops of yarn. Woven cloth is made by crossing yarns at right angles, and it sits in other chapters. Some traders call this chapter HSN code chapter 60. It is the same list of codes.

The chapter names fabrics, not finished goods. A roll of jersey cloth belongs here. A T-shirt cut from that cloth does not. Inside the chapter, the six-digit codes tell you the fibre and the finish. The fibre can be cotton, synthetic fibres, artificial fibres, or wool and fine animal hair. The finish can be bleached, dyed, made of yarns of different colours, or printed.

Each heading has its own page with its own six-digit codes. This page gives you the map and sends you to the right heading.

HSN code for knitted crocheted fabrics: the headings at a glance

Each heading has a short name below. Open the heading page to see the full official wording and every code under it.

  • 6001 Pile fabrics: long pile, looped pile and terry cloth.
  • 6003 Narrow knitted fabrics: width up to 30 cm, all other kinds.
  • 6006 Other knitted or crocheted fabrics: whatever the first five headings do not catch.

How to choose the right chapter 60 code

Work through the questions in order. Stop at the first heading that fits.

Elastomeric yarn is stretchy yarn. Only the width separates those two headings. Narrow cloth goes to 6002. Wider cloth goes to 6004. The same width line splits 6003 from 6006. If the cloth is narrow and has no stretch yarn at that level, use 6003. If it is wider and fits no other heading, use 6006.

After the heading, look at the fibre and the finish. These examples show how the last digits work:

  • Is it pile or terry cloth? Start with heading 6001.
  • Is it 30 cm wide or less? Look at 6002 or 6003.
  • Is it wider and stretchy? Look at 6004.
  • Is it made on a warp knitting machine? Look at 6005.
  • Is it none of these? Look at 6006.
  • 600121 is looped pile of cotton, and 600122 is looped pile of man-made fibres.
  • 600622 is dyed cotton knitted fabric.
  • 600632 is dyed synthetic knitted fabric, and 600634 is printed synthetic knitted fabric.
  • 600537 is dyed synthetic warp knit fabric, and 600539 is the printed version.

Is knitted fabric chapter 60 or chapter 61?

Knitted fabric is chapter 60. Knitted clothing is chapter 61. If the item is already cut and sewn into a garment, look at the apparel chapter instead.

Some fabrics look similar but sit elsewhere. Fabrics that are impregnated, coated, covered or laminated belong to chapter 59. Wadding, felt and nonwovens belong to chapter 56.
