HS code 51 wool: raw wool, animal hair and waste (5101 to 5105)

The first five headings cover fibre before it is spun. Greasy wool still has its natural grease. Degreased wool has been cleaned. Carbonised wool has its own code, 510130. A good example is 510111, which is greasy wool taken straight from the sheep by shearing. Greasy wool that did not come from shearing sits in the same heading.

Heading 5102 holds fine or coarse animal hair that is not carded or combed. Cashmere hair from kashmir goats has its own code, 510211. Other fine hair and coarse hair are listed next to it.

Heading 5103 is for waste. Noils of wool or fine hair, such as 510310, belong here, along with yarn waste. Garnetted stock is kept apart in heading 5104.

Heading 5105 is for fibre that has been carded or combed. Carded wool is 510510.

Wool and animal hair yarn (5106 to 5110)

Yarn is fibre that has been spun into thread. This chapter sorts yarn by how the fibre was prepared and how the yarn is sold.

Each splits again by wool share.

Heading 5108 is yarn of fine animal hair, so cashmere yarn goes here.

Woven wool fabric (5111 to 5113)

Fabric headings follow the same carded and combed split as yarn. Heading 5111 is woven fabric of carded wool or carded fine hair. Heading 5112 is woven fabric of combed wool or combed fine hair.

Inside 5111 and 5112, the first test is wool share. In 5111 the line is 300 g/m2, as in 511111. In 5112 the line is 200 g/m2, as in 511211.
