What HS code 58 fabrics cover

Chapter 58 special woven fabrics are not plain cloth. They have a raised surface, an open mesh, a stitched design or a very narrow width. Many are sold by the piece, by the strip or as cut motifs.

The chapter also holds goods that finish or decorate other textiles. Examples are woven labels and badges, braids, tassels and quilted material. Plain woven cloth made from a single fibre sits in other chapters of the textile section, such as cotton or silk.

How to choose the right Chapter 58 code

Most mistakes come from headings that sit close together. These are the main dividing lines.

A narrow fabric that has elastomeric yarn or rubber thread in it goes to 580620.

Tufted fabrics and carpets: tufted textile fabrics such as 580230 belong in 5802. Products that count as floor coverings go to heading 5703, which is in Chapter 57.

Lace and knits: heading 5804 covers net and lace. Those are handled in Chapter 60.

Embroidery, trimmings and quilting: heading 5810 is for embroidery. Heading 5808 is for ornamental trimmings made without embroidery. Heading 5811 is for quilted products and leaves out the embroidery of 5810.
