18 six-digit codes · Heading 18 of 21 in Chapter 44 · World Customs Organization Harmonized System
HS code 4418 is the customs code for wood parts used to build and fit out buildings, such as doors, windows, floor panels and beams. This page sorts its codes by product type and shows how to pick the right one.
Heading 4418 is finely cut: 18 six-digit codes, 441811 to 441899, all of them under “Builders' joinery and carpentry of wood, including cellular wood panels, assembled flooring panels, shingles and shakes”. At that depth it is the exact wording of the code, not of the heading, that settles a classification. The heading is number 18 of 21 in Chapter 44, Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal, which runs to 128 six-digit codes in all.

What HS code 4418 covers
Some countries call it HSN code 4418. It groups wood products made for building work. These are parts a builder fits into a house, a roof or a floor. They are not raw timber.
Think of wooden doors and frames, windows, assembled floor panels, roof shingles, posts, beams and forms for pouring concrete. Newer engineered timber such as glulam and CLT sits here too.
Customs looks at what the item is and what it is made of. A finished door belongs here. The plain planks that could become a door later belong in sawn wood, heading 4407.
4418 subheadings by product type
The codes are easier to scan when you group them by what the product does. Here is the plain-language map.
- Both cover French-windows and their frames.
- Both cover doors, their frames and thresholds.
- Other builders' joinery: 441891 (bamboo), 441892 (cellular wood panels) and 441899 (everything else).
How to choose the right 4418 code
Start with the product, then check the material. For doors and windows the split is the type of wood. Pick the pair that matches your item, then the code that matches the wood.
For flooring, look at the top layer, also called the wear layer. If it is bamboo, the code is 441873. If it is not bamboo, the code depends on the panel type, and 441879 catches panels that fit none of the named types.
Posts and beams in 441830 leave out the engineered timber products. Code 441889 is only for engineered timber that is none of those three.
The last code in each group, such as 441899, is for items that match nothing more specific. Check the specific codes first. If you are still unsure, try the HS code classifier.
4418 vs nearby wood headings
Several close headings cause mix-ups. Here is how to tell them apart.
HS 4409 covers wood shaped along its edges or faces, including parquet strips that are not assembled. Loose strips go to 4409.
HS 4412 covers plywood, veneered panels and similar laminated wood. A flat plywood sheet goes there. A finished joinery item made of it may still fall in 4418.
HS 4414 covers wooden frames for paintings, photographs and mirrors. Door and window frames stay in 4418. Heading 4421 holds wooden articles not named elsewhere in the nearby headings. Check 4418 first, because it is more specific.
