HS Code 0208Meat and edible meat offal, n.e.c. in chapter 2; fresh, chilled or frozen
6 six-digit codes · Heading 8 of 10 in Chapter 02 · World Customs Organization Harmonized System
HS code 0208 is where rabbit, camel, reptile and other less common meat goes. This page explains each code and how to choose between 0208 and its neighbours.
The WCO writes heading 0208 as a residual bucket: goods of Chapter 02that answer to “Meat and edible meat offal, n.e.c. in chapter 2; fresh, chilled or frozen” and that no more specific heading in the chapter already claims. It still carries 6 six-digit codes, 020810 through 020890, so “other” is not the end of the classification here. The heading is number 8 of 10 in Chapter 02, Meat and edible meat offal, which runs to 66 six-digit codes in all.

What HS code 0208 covers
Chapter 02 sorts meat by animal first. Cattle, pigs, sheep, horses and poultry each get their own heading. Heading 0208 is the catch-all for the rest.
Offal means the edible parts of an animal that are not plain muscle meat, such as organs. Under 0208, these parts count only when they come from an animal with no heading of its own.
Traders use different labels for the same four digits. You may see HSN code 0208 in India, HTS code 0208 in the United States, or ITC-HS heading 0208 in other lists. The first four digits match everywhere. Each country may add more digits after them for its own tariff classification.
The six-digit codes explained in plain words
Each code names one animal group. Choose the code that matches the animal, not the cut of meat.
- 020810: rabbit and hare meat.
- 020830: meat of primates, such as monkeys.
- 020850: reptile meat, such as snake or turtle.
- 020860: camel meat and the meat of other camelids.
- 020890: any other meat of Chapter 02 that fits nowhere else. Frog legs and similar goods are often checked against this code.
Picking the right code: 0208 versus other Chapter 02 headings
Use 0208 only when no other heading in the chapter names your animal. Here is where the common animals go instead.
- Cattle: 0201 for fresh or chilled beef, 0202 for frozen beef.
- Pigs: 0203.
- Sheep or goats: 0204.
- Chickens and other fowls of the Gallus domesticus kind: 0207.
- Pig fat and poultry fat: 0209.
- Salted or dried meat: 0210.
How to choose the code step by step
A wrong code can slow a shipment at the border, so work in order. First, name the animal. Second, note how the meat is kept: raw, frozen, salted or dried. Third, look for a heading from 0201 to 0207 that names your animal. Fourth, if none fits, read the named codes under 0208. Use 020890 last.
If you are still unsure, the HS code classifier lets you compare options before you file.
