HS code 02 meat and edible meat offal: products by heading
Most buyers start with a product name, not a code. This quick map sends common products to the right four-digit heading. The first two digits, 02, name the chapter. The next two digits name the heading.
- Bovine meat, fresh or chilled: heading 0201
- Bovine meat, frozen: heading 0202
- Pork and other meat of swine: heading 0203
- Lamb, sheep and goat meat: heading 0204
- Liver, tongue and other edible offal: heading 0206
- Chicken, turkey, duck and goose: heading 0207
- Cured meat: heading 0210
How to choose the right Chapter 02 code
Work through the questions below in order. Each answer narrows the choice until one six-digit code is left.
Most mistakes come from mixing up fresh and frozen goods, or from picking a general code when a specific one exists. If you are still unsure, try the HS code classifier.
- Name the animal. Cattle go to 0201 or 0202, pigs to 0203, sheep and goats to 0204, and chickens and other poultry to 0207.
- Check the state. Chilled and frozen beef are split into two separate headings. Pork stays in one heading but has a chilled group of codes and a frozen group.
- Check the cut. Beef codes separate whole carcasses, cuts with the bone in, and boneless cuts. Fresh boneless beef is 020130.
- Check the part. Pork hams and shoulders with the bone in, fresh or chilled, are 020312.
- Check for processing. Curing moves meat out of the fresh and frozen headings and into 0210.
Offal, poultry, other meats, fat and cured meat
Edible offal of cattle, pigs, sheep, goats and horses sits in 0206. Bovine tongues, frozen, are 020621. Bovine livers, frozen, are 020622. Poultry offal does not go here. It travels with the poultry meat in 0207.
Heading 0208 is a catch-all for meat not named in the other headings. It includes rabbits, camels and reptiles. Heading 0209 is for pig fat and poultry fat, as long as the fat is free of lean meat and has not been rendered or otherwise extracted.
Salted, dried or smoked meat
Heading 0210 is for meat that has been salted, put in brine, dried or smoked. Pork hams with the bone in are 021011. Pork bellies are 021012. Cured beef is 021020. Fat is the exception, because it stays in 0209 even after curing.
What Chapter 02 does not cover
Chapter 02 is for meat and offal, not for the whole animal or for other foods that come from animals. Check the neighbouring chapters if your product is not meat.
- Chapter 01 holds live animals.
- Chapter 03 holds fish, crustaceans and molluscs.
- Chapter 04 holds dairy produce, birds' eggs and natural honey.
- Chapter 05 holds other animal products not named elsewhere.

HS Chapter 02: common questions
What is HS code 02?
It is the two-digit chapter code that groups meat products in customs. Every product in it sits under a four-digit heading that starts with 02.
What is the HSN code for meat and edible meat offal?
The HSN code follows the same chapter number, so it is 02 as well. Use the heading map above to narrow it down.
What is the HS code for frozen boneless beef?
Frozen boneless beef is 020230, under heading 0202.
What is the HS code for frozen chicken cuts?
Frozen chicken cuts and offal are 020714, under the poultry heading 0207.
Which heading covers edible offal like liver and tongue?
Heading 0206 covers them. Frozen swine livers, for example, are 020641. Poultry offal goes under 0207 instead.
Where is salted or smoked meat classified?
It goes to heading 0210, which also covers brine-cured and dried meat.
Are live animals or fish in Chapter 02?
No. A live animal or a fish has its own chapter, so it never takes a 02 code.
