HS Code 7305Iron or steel (excluding cast iron); tubes and pipes (e.g. welded, riveted or similarly closed), having circular cross-sections, external diameter of which exceeds 406.4mm, not seamless

7 six-digit codes · Heading 5 of 26 in Chapter 73 · World Customs Organization Harmonized System

Some countries call it HSN code 7305.

Heading 7305 is finely cut: 7 six-digit codes, 730511 to 730590, all of them under “Iron or steel (excluding cast iron); tubes and pipes (e.g. welded, riveted or similarly closed), having circular cross-sections, external diameter of which exceeds 406.4mm, not seamless”. At that depth it is the exact wording of the code, not of the heading, that settles a classification. The heading is number 5 of 26 in Chapter 73, Iron or steel articles, which runs to 124 six-digit codes in all.

What HS code 7305 covers

Think of heading 7305 as the home of big welded steel pipe. Cast iron is left out. The pipe must be round when you cut across it. It must not be seamless.

The words "welded, riveted or similarly closed" tell you how the pipe is made. A flat plate is rolled into a tube, and the edges are joined. The join can be a weld, rivets or another way of closing the seam. A seamless pipe has no join at all, so it belongs somewhere else.

Size matters too. Only pipe with an outside diameter above the limit goes here. A narrower pipe, or one made without a seam, falls under a different heading.

HS 7305 subcodes: line pipe, casing and other pipe

The subcodes fall into three plain groups. The first test is what the pipe is used for. The second test is how the seam was made.

  • 730512 is longitudinally welded pipe made by another method. 730519 is line pipe whose seam does not run along its length.
  • 730539 is other welded pipe whose seam does not run along its length. 730590 is the catch-all for pipe not named elsewhere in the heading.

How to pick the right code, and how 7305 differs from 7303, 7304 and 7306

Start with the use. Does the pipe carry oil or gas in a pipeline? Look at 730511, 730512 and 730519. Is it casing for drilling? Use 730520.

Next, check the seam. LSAW pipe has one long seam made by submerged arc welding, which points to 730511. A long seam made another way points to 730512 for line pipe, or 730531 for other pipe.

Now the difference between HS 7304 and 7305. Heading 7304 is for seamless pipe. Heading 7303 is for cast iron pipe, which 7305 leaves out.

Who imports HS code 7305 pipes? Import and export data

Import records show which companies buy large welded steel pipe. Export records show which companies sell it. Read together, they give you buyers on one side and suppliers on the other. Use the import data page to look for buyers and the export data page to look for suppliers.

EximDataX shows shipment-level import and export records from official customs sources. Coverage: 43 direct customs feeds plus 184 mirror-derived countries.
