HS Code 0106Animals; live, n.e.c. in chapter 01
13 six-digit codes · Heading 6 of 6 in Chapter 01 · World Customs Organization Harmonized System
HS code 0106 covers live animals that are not horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats or farm poultry. Think primates, reptiles, parrots and bees.
The WCO writes heading 0106 as a residual bucket: goods of Chapter 01that answer to “Animals; live, n.e.c. in chapter 01” and that no more specific heading in the chapter already claims. It still carries 13 six-digit codes, 010611 through 010690, so “other” is not the end of the classification here. The heading is number 6 of 6 in Chapter 01, Animals; live, which runs to 34 six-digit codes in all.

What HS code 0106 covers: other live animals
Heading 0106 is the catch-all of Chapter 01. It takes live animals that have no heading of their own. If your animal is not a horse, a bovine, a pig, a sheep, a goat or farm poultry, look here next.
A live animals HS code search often ends at this heading. It includes zoo animals, pets, small mammals, snakes, birds and bees. You may also see it written as HSN code 0106 or HTS 0106. The first four digits are the same in all of these.
The codes under the heading are sorted by animal type. Each group lists named species first and a catch-all code last.
Subheadings under HS heading 0106
The six-digit codes fall into five groups. The table above gives the exact customs wording. This is the plain-language view.
- Live birds, 010631 to 010639: birds of prey, Psittaciformes (parrots), ostriches and emus, plus all remaining birds.
- Live insects, 010641 and 010649: bees, and every other insect.
- Other live animals, 010690: any live animal that is not a mammal, reptile, bird or insect.
How 0106 differs from headings 0101 to 0105
Chapter 01 gives the common farm animals their own headings. Heading 0106 only picks up what is left. Check these first, so you do not use the wrong code.
- 0102: bovine animals.
- 0103: swine.
- 0104: sheep and goats.
- 0105: poultry, meaning fowls, ducks, geese, turkeys and guinea fowls.
How to choose the right six-digit code under 0106
Start with the class of animal. Is it a mammal, a reptile, a bird or an insect? That choice narrows the list fast.
Next, look for a named group inside that class. If your animal matches one, use that code. A rabbit, a parrot or a snake each has its own line in the table.
If the animal is in the right class but has no named group, use the catch-all for that class. Use 010690 only when the animal is none of the four classes.
Customs officers can ask for proof of species, so keep the species name on your papers. Your country may add more digits to the six-digit code. Check your national tariff for that longer code. The HS code classifier can help you test your choice.
