HS Code 8411Turbo-jets, turbo-propellers and other gas turbines
8 six-digit codes · Heading 11 of 86 in Chapter 84 · World Customs Organization Harmonized System
HS code 8411 is where customs places jet engines, propeller turbines and other gas turbines, along with their parts. Read on to pick the right six-digit code and to see who trades these machines.
Heading 8411 is finely cut: 8 six-digit codes, 841111 to 841199, all of them under “Turbo-jets, turbo-propellers and other gas turbines”. At that depth it is the exact wording of the code, not of the heading, that settles a classification. The heading is number 11 of 86 in Chapter 84, Machinery and mechanical appliances, boilers, nuclear reactors; parts thereof, which runs to 538 six-digit codes in all.

| 841191 | Turbines; parts of turbo-jets and turbo-propellers |
| 841199 | Turbines; parts of gas turbines (excluding turbo-jets and turbo-propellers) |
What HS code 8411 covers
A gas turbine burns fuel. The hot gas spins a set of blades. The spinning blades either push an aircraft forward or turn a shaft that drives other equipment.
This heading groups three kinds of machine: turbojet engines, turbo-propeller engines and all other gas turbines. Many aircraft engines are classed here. Parts for these engines are classed here too.
Some traders call it the HSN code 8411. The number is the same. It is a tariff classification inside Chapter 84 machinery, which you can browse from the chapter page.
How to pick the right 8411 code
Work in two steps. First, name the type of machine. Second, check one number on its data plate. Each code sets a limit, and your machine falls on one side of it.
Turbo-jets are sorted by thrust, which is the push the engine gives. Turbo-propellers and other gas turbines are sorted by power, which is the output at the shaft. Parts are sorted by the engine they were made for.
- Turbo-jets: 841111 for thrust up to 25 kN, 841112 for thrust above it.
- Turbo-propellers: 841121 for power up to 1100 kW, 841122 for power above it.
- Other gas turbines: 841181 for power up to 5000 kW, 841182 for power above it.
- Parts: 841191 fits turbo-jet and turbo-propeller parts. 841199 fits parts of every other gas turbine.
What does 8411 not include?
Some machines look close to gas turbines but sit elsewhere. Reaction engines, hydraulic power engines and pneumatic power engines that are named nowhere else belong in 8412.
Piston engines are a separate group again. Petrol-type piston engines are in 8407 and diesel engines are in 8408. Parts made mainly for those piston engines are in 8409.
The easy way to compare 8411 and 8406 is the working fluid. Hot combustion gas drives the first. Steam drives the second. If your product is hard to place, try the HS code classifier.
HS 8411 import and export data: who imports gas turbines?
Customs records show who buys and who sells under a code. For this heading they tell you which companies move turbines and engine parts across borders.
EximDataX shows shipment-level import and export records from official customs sources. Coverage: 43 direct customs feeds plus 184 mirror-derived countries. Named buyers and named suppliers are available in 38 of the 43 direct markets. Most markets refresh weekly and some refresh daily. HS Code 8411: common questions
What is the HS code for turbo-jet engines?
Two codes apply, 841111 and 841112. The thrust rating of the engine decides which one.
What is the HS code for gas turbines?
The power rating decides which one.
Which HS code covers gas turbine parts?
Parts have their own pair at the end of the heading, 841191 and 841199. The type of engine the part was made for decides which one.
What is the difference between HS 8411 and 8406 turbines?
8411 is for turbines driven by hot gas.
