HS Code 6309Textiles; worn clothing and other worn articles
1 six-digit code · Heading 9 of 10 in Chapter 63 · World Customs Organization Harmonized System
HS code 6309 is where customs places used clothing and other used textile products. The test is simple: the goods have been worn before they ship.
Heading 6309does not subdivide further in the WCO nomenclature: goods answering to “Textiles; worn clothing and other worn articles” classify at the single six-digit code 630900. The heading is number 9 of 10 in Chapter 63, Textiles, made up articles; sets; worn clothing and worn textile articles; rags, which runs to 52 six-digit codes in all.

What HS code 6309 covers
Heading 6309 is for clothing that has already been worn. It also takes other worn articles that fit the made up textile range of Chapter 63. The Harmonized System, kept by the World Customs Organization (WCO), uses this heading so that every country names these goods the same way.
The word worn is the key test. A new item of the same kind would be classified somewhere else. If you ship used garments, you start here. If you ship new garments, you do not.
The heading belongs to Section XI, which groups textiles and textile articles. The only code under it is 630900, described as clothing; worn, and other worn articles. Customs offices, freight forwarders and tax forms all use that code for tariff classification of used textile products.
HS 630900, HSN and HTS code forms
630900 is the international code. It has six digits and is the same in every country that uses the Harmonized System. Countries then add more digits for their own needs.
In India the longer form is called the HSN code. In the United States it is called the HTS code. Many national schemes add two or four more digits, which gives an eight-digit or ten-digit code. The first six digits of those longer codes should still read 630900.
So an HSN code for worn clothing and an HTS code for worn clothing are not rivals of HS 6309. They are national versions built on the same base. Check your own country's tariff schedule for the exact long form.
Duty rates are set by each country and can change. This page does not list them. If you are unsure which code fits your goods, try the HS code classifier.
HS 6309 vs 6310 and other Chapter 63 headings
Buyers often mix up 6309 and 6310.
Here is a quick way to tell them apart. If the item is still a wearable piece that has been used, think 6309. If it is a rag, scrap or a worn out piece of rope or twine, think 6310. The first group is about use. The second group is about waste and scrap.
Other Chapter 63 headings cover goods that are new made up articles. A catch-all for other made up textile articles, including dress patterns, sits in 6307. Check these before you settle on a code.
- 6309: worn clothing and other worn articles
- 6310: rags, scrap twine, cordage, rope and cables, and worn out articles of them
