HS Code 0307Molluscs; whether in shell or not, live, fresh, chilled, frozen, dried, salted or in brine; smoked molluscs, whether in shell or not, whether or not cooked before or during the smoking process
28 six-digit codes · Heading 7 of 9 in Chapter 03 · World Customs Organization Harmonized System
It sorts them by species first, then by the form in which they are traded.
Heading 0307 is finely cut: 28 six-digit codes, 030711 to 030799, all of them under “Molluscs; whether in shell or not, live, fresh, chilled, frozen, dried, salted or in brine; smoked molluscs, whether in shell or not, whether or not cooked before or during the smoking process”. At that depth it is the exact wording of the code, not of the heading, that settles a classification. The heading is number 7 of 9 in Chapter 03, Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, which runs to 225 six-digit codes in all.

What does HS code 0307 cover?
Heading 0307 is the home of edible molluscs. Molluscs are soft-bodied animals, and many have shells. They come from the sea or from farms. The goods may be sold in the shell or out of it.
The heading covers more than one form of the product. A mollusc can be alive, fresh or frozen. It can also be dried, salted, kept in brine or smoked. People also search for this as HSN code 0307. It points to the same goods.
The heading sits in Chapter 03, which also holds fish, crustaceans and other aquatic invertebrates. Molluscs are one slice of that chapter. Shrimp and crabs sit next door, under a different heading.
HS 0307 codes by mollusc type
The easiest way to read the list is by species. Most species repeat three forms in a set order. The first code is for the living or fresh form. The second is for the frozen form. The third is for the preserved form, which is dried, salted, brined or smoked.
Two groups break the pattern. Snails have a single code for every form. Abalone and conchs follow a slightly different number order, because their codes are interleaved.
- Oysters: 030711, 030712, 030719.
- Scallops: 030721, 030722, 030729.
- Octopus: 030751, 030752, 030759.
- Snails, other than sea snails: 030760, one code for all forms.
- Abalone (Haliotis): 030781 for the first form, 030783 for frozen, 030787 for preserved.
- Stromboid conchs (Strombus): 030782 for the first form, 030784 for frozen, 030788 for preserved.
- Molluscs not named elsewhere in the heading: 030791, 030792, 030799.
How to choose the right 0307 subheading
Start with the animal. Ask what species it is, then find its group in the list above. Squid and octopus may look alike in a box, but each has its own codes.
Next, check the form of the goods when they arrive. Living, fresh and cooled goods share one code per species. Frozen goods get their own code. Dried, salted, brined or smoked goods share the third. Cooking before or during smoking does not change the code.
Use the codes for molluscs not named elsewhere only as a last step. If your species has its own code, that code wins.
The first six digits come from the Harmonized System, so customs offices around the world share them. A country may add more digits for its own use. Check the national tariff before you file. The HS code classifier can help you narrow down the choice.
Difference between HS 0306 and 0307
If the animal has a jointed body and legs, look at 0306. If it is a clam or a snail, stay in 0307.
Other neighbours are easy to mix up too. Heading 0308 holds aquatic invertebrates that are neither crustaceans nor molluscs. Heading 0309 holds flours, meals and pellets made from fish, crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, fit for people to eat. Whole or cut fish sit in headings 0301 to 0305. Frozen fish, for example, goes to 0303.
A simple rule helps. Name the animal first. Then decide whether the goods are whole, processed or ground into flour.
HS code 0307 import and export data
Once you know the code, you can look at who trades it. Buyers want reliable suppliers. Suppliers want new buyers. Customs records help both sides.
EximDataX shows shipment-level import and export records from official customs sources. Coverage: 43 direct customs feeds plus 184 mirror-derived countries. Named buyers and named suppliers are available in 38 of the 43 direct markets. Most markets refresh weekly and some refresh daily. You can search by HS code to see who imports and exports a product, and book a free demo.
To keep a search tight, use a six-digit code instead of the whole heading. A squid code will not pull in oysters or clams.
