What HS code 6212 covers
In shops these are called lingerie, support garments or foundation garments. Customs uses plainer and more exact names. Some countries and tax forms write the same number as HSN code 6212.
Parts are included too. A part made for one of these articles is classified here, not under a general clothing-parts heading. That rule matters if you trade in components rather than finished pieces.
A bra, a girdle and a pair of braces look very different. Customs still puts them side by side because they do a similar job: they support or shape the body.
How to choose the right 6212 code
Start with what the item is, not what the label says. Then match it to one of the codes below. Look at the shape, the use and the wording of the code.
Use 621290 only when the first three do not fit. It is the place for similar articles that have no code of their own.
These are six-digit codes. Each country adds its own extra digits for national tariff lines, so check your national tariff before you file. If you are unsure, the HS code classifier can help you test a product description.

Knitted or not: why 6212 is different in Chapter 62
Most headings in Chapter 62 cover garments that are not made by knitting or crocheting. Heading 6212 is the exception. Its title adds the words "whether or not", so the way the item is made does not matter.
This means a knitted bra or a crocheted garter belongs here. You do not move it to the knitted apparel chapter because of how it was made.
It is the main reason 6212 stands apart from its neighbours. If you sell stretch support wear, read the heading text and not just the chapter title.
6212 vs nearby headings
Two headings are easy to mix up with 6212. Heading 6208 is for women's underwear and nightwear, such as slips and panties. A bra or a girdle does not go there.
Its own text leaves out parts of the articles in 6212. So parts of bras, girdles and corsets stay in 6212.
For men's underpants and pyjamas, look at 6207 instead. Check that heading if your product is closer to everyday underwear than to body-support wear.
